At every Mass we announce the intention of the Mass (usually it’s the name of a person who is living or deceased). Having an intention for the Mass is a very ancient practice and because the Mass is the greatest prayer we have, offering a Mass for someone is the best prayer we can make for them. Specifically praying for the dead is a pious practice and a noble thing to do (as we read in the 2nd Book of Maccabees) but can also help souls in purgatory to reach heaven. It’s a wonderful way to remember loved ones who have passed, but it can actually help them even now.
You can use the form to request a Mass for someone living or deceased and we will add the intention to the next available open day. If you have a specific date and time in mind for one of our Masses you can also request that but we cannot guarantee that the intention is open. If you have specific requests the best option would be to call or stop by the office.
Mass intentions are published each week in the bulletin. You may notice that one of the Sunday Masses always says "Pro Populo" and during the Mass is announced as "for the special intentions of the people of Holy Ghost Parish." Each Pastor of a parish is required by Canon Law to offer the Mass for his people each week on Sunday, so one of the Masses must be for the people of the parish.
We also have cards that can be filled out with the Mass information available if you would like to send them to someone but they need to be picked up in the office and cannot be mailed by us.
The United States Bishops Conference set the suggested stipend for each Mass offered at $10.00 but more or less is fine based on your circumstances.
